5 Questions about Coaching
01 — What is coaching?
ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.
02 — Who can benefit?
Anyone who is ready to partner with a coach on a future focused process to change their life and enjoy greater personal and professional fulfilment.
03 — How does it work?
1. Awareness. Coaching challenges the way we think about our thinking so we can question our conscious and unconscious ways of being and doing.
2. Clarity. Through coaching, we are able to name and define a real issue by focusing on one piece at a time and separating fact from feelings.
3. Choice. Fearlessly, and without boundaries, coaching allows us to explore possibilities for change.
4. Action. We can commit to an energising plan or practice to rewire our way of thinking and behaving that supports our desired way of being. (Source, Forbes.)
04 — How is coaching different?
Coaching is led by you, the coachee. It isn’t therapy and doesn’t involve receiving direction or advice. Here’s a helpful way to see the difference:
A mentor has expertise or experience in the clients’ area and gives advice.
A therapist or counsellor works with clients to address and resolve emotional issues.
A coach works with their clients by helping them identify and achieve their own through active listening and clean questions. Coaching unlocks the answers the client already has but can’t access.
05 — How will we work together?
Following a free, no-obligation 30-minute introductory call, you’ll decide if you want to go forwards with me as your coach or not.
If you do, you decide whether you want to book individual sessions as and when you need them, or a package. You can have coaching as often as you want, or space the appointments out, we’ll talk about what might work best in the introductory call.
If you book a package, I’ll send you some exploratory journal prompts to clarify your thinking before our first session.
We’ll then work through a 60-minute online Zoom coaching session, scheduled to suit you. Each session will be different as we follow what you need to talk about or resolve.
I will always hold space for you by actively listening, asking questions, paraphrasing or reflecting back what you have said. This helps you get an idea of what might be stopping you and to work out ways of moving forwards or making changes.
We agree an action at the end of each session, or a point to reflect on between sessions. I’ll email you this and send you a link to book our next meeting whenever suits you. I encourage you to email me for accountability when you get things done.
In our final session, we’ll review and reflect on your progress and celebrate your wins. I also offer a follow up exercise for you to do in your own time to close off the process.
There’s always the option to book additional adhoc sessions or a new package if you want to keep going, or simply take a break and come back if and when you need more support.
