5 self-coaching questions to ask yourself

Take some time to get clear about what’s really going on for you

If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed, lacking direction or need to prioritise, these coaching prompts are a useful place to start.

⏰ Set a timer for 10 minutes (or more) and try to keep writing or speaking until the end of that time. This helps get past the obvious and into deeper thinking.

✏ Work through the questions by writing your answers down or saying them aloud. Recording yourself on your phone so you can listen back and make notes is often useful.

🔎 Notice what you've said or written. What is repeated? Did anything surprise you? What needs your urgent attention? Did any strong feelings emerge - if so, what’s the message?

Self-coaching is a great way to take time for yourself, and to identify what you need to pay attention to or make space for:

  1. What do you want or need more of in your life right now?

  2. What's stopping you or getting in your way?

  3. What resources or support do you already have around you, who could you ask for help?

  4. What else? Thoughts, ideas, emotions around this situation.

  5. What's one small step (no matter how tiny) you could take today to move forwards on this?

If you feel overwhelmed at the thought of doing this, then the following question is always a great place to start:
🌟 Given the reality of where I am right now, what is the next best action I can take for myself?
